Anthony Martial is currently without a club after he and Mexican Liga MX outfit CF Monterrey went their separate ways in June.

A dislocated shoulder suffered in February 2026, followed by a disciplinary row with manager Nicolas Sanchez that resulted in him being banned from training, eventually meant there was very little option for either side other than to split.

Unfortunately for Martial, his career has not been able to gather momentum since leaving Manchester United in 2024. He was unable to make the desired impact at AEK Athens after departing United, managing only seven goals in 19 league matches for the Greek Super League club.

Considering the excitement that surrounded his arrival, that output fell short of expectations.

Monterrey then decided to take a chance on him a year later in 2025, but things did not improve there either, with the forward scoring only once in 17 league appearances before his exit.

Now a free agent, Martial was the subject of a report covered earlier this week which stated that he had been offered to a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton.

Although that report indicated that the Toffees had the opportunity to sign him but had not yet moved forward, David Moyes’ latest comments suggest there could still be developments.

After selling Beto and failing to bring in a replacement before deadline day, while INEOS blocked their move for Joshua Zirkzee, Everton are left with only Thierno Barry as their lone senior natural striker.

Because of that, they could certainly do with late attacking reinforcement, and a move for a free agent such as Martial appears logical.

Moyes has now confirmed that Everton are continuing to assess the free-agent market, saying:

“We’re looking at the free agents’ market, but I want a team that can be at the top end and can challenge. The disappointment would be that I want to keep pushing on and for the players to believe we’re going in the right direction.”

If Martial has indeed been hoping for a switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes’ remarks are likely to come as a major encouragement.

Given his Premier League experience, Martial will no doubt view himself as one of the strongest options open to Everton as they try to address the gap in their attack.
