Health Desk. Meningitis is a colloquial term used to describe a serious condition in which the brain or its surrounding membranes become inflamed. It may be clinically associated with conditions such as encephalitis or meningitis. There can be many reasons for this, among which viral and bacterial infections are prominent. Timely identification and treatment is very important.
Be alert if you see these 5 signs
1. High fever: Early signs may include sudden and persistent high fever.
2. Severe Headache: A more severe or persistent headache than usual, especially with fever, should not be ignored.
3. Vomiting and stiff neck: Frequent vomiting along with fever or difficulty moving the neck can be a sign of serious infection.
4. Confusion or changes in behavior: Abnormal behavior of the patient, difficulty in understanding words, excessive sleep or confusion are matters of concern.
5. Seizures or fainting: Seizures, loss of consciousness, or sudden fainting are considered emergencies. Don't ignore it.
When to go to the doctor immediately?
If high fever is accompanied by fainting, seizures, confusion, severe stiff neck, or altered consciousness, treatment should not be delayed. Especially in children, such symptoms can rapidly become serious. Keep in mind that these symptoms do not always mean meningitis. Doctor's examination is necessary to know the exact reason. Seek medical help immediately for any severe or suddenly worsening symptoms.
