New Delhi. The controversy over the assault on activist Nishu Azad's father Sanjay Kumar during the protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has once again heated up. After an alleged podcast clip surfaced on social media, Cockroach Janata Party (BJP) workers and leaders surrounded Sansad Marg police station and demonstrated strongly.
Reason for controversy: In a podcast broadcast on social media, accused Swatantra Bhardwaj allegedly confessed that he had attacked Sanjay Kumar on the head during the protest. However, he later clarified that it was a step taken in self-defense. Gathering of opposition leaders: Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad, MP Pappu Yadav and Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress President Akshay Lakra also reached Sansad Marg police station in support of the protest.
After Nishu Azad appealed for help on social media, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi assured him of legal and moral support, after which the legal team of Congress also became active. Police action: After hours of talks in the police station, the police has assured that sections of SC/ST Act are being included in the case and on the basis of medical report and legal opinion, adding non-bailable sections like attempt to murder is being considered. Teams are being sent to arrest the accused.
