New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing military conflict between America and Israel against Iran, US Vice President JD Vance has refused to give any final timeline for the end of the war. He says that the further direction of the conflict will largely depend on Iran's steps. On the other hand, prolonged geopolitical tension has increased concerns regarding global energy supply and oil market.

It is not right to call it a war: Vance

While speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, August 3, 2026, Vance avoided directly calling the current situation a 'war'. He said that at present there is no continuous firing on a large scale. However, he later admitted that violent clashes had occurred again in some areas in the last few days.

According to Vance, the most important stage of the American military operation lasted for about 6 weeks. During this period, he claimed to have caused considerable damage to Iran's defense production capacity. However, on the question of when the conflict will end completely, he clearly refused to give any date or timeline.

Increased concern over Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the biggest issues in the tension with Iran. Vance accused Iran of affecting the movement of commercial ships through this important sea route. He said that as long as the activities of the Iranian side continue, it may take time for the situation to become normal.

Before the war started, the movement of international merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz was normal. About 20 percent of the world's total oil and gas consumption passed through this route. After the initial attacks by America and Israel, Iran has claimed to have closed this waterway to commercial ships.

Claim to reduce impact on oil prices

Vance said that one of the objectives of American military activities is to maintain the energy supply. He also mentioned the new agreement regarding about 65 billion barrels of oil reserves to Venezuela to reduce pressure on the global oil market. According to him, this can help in controlling oil prices in the international market. He also raised questions on American allies not contributing enough and said that the actions of the US military under the leadership of President Donald Trump have helped in averting a major energy crisis.

Investigation into attack on wedding ceremony continues

Asked about the alleged US attack targeting a wedding ceremony in Iran's coastal city of Sirik, Vance said the incident was being investigated by the US military. According to reports, at least 5 people including children died and about 70 people were injured in this incident.

Vance expressed doubt on the information put forward by the Iranian government. He said that the real situation of the incident will become clear only after the investigation is completed. He also said that if any mistake is made by the American Army, then efforts will be made to prevent such incidents in future by learning from it. However, the US military has denied allegations of deliberately targeting civilians.
