Manchester United will be hoping Mason Mount is available again when they travel to Everton in the Premier League this weekend.

The midfielder has been out of action since suffering a knock in the match against Paris Saint-Germain in early August.

Although the problem was first described as a minor one, it has now kept him sidelined for close to a month.

Head coach Michael Carrick, however, offered an encouraging update on Mount last week, saying: “Mase (Mount) is back around the group, which was great. Trained this week, so that’s a big positive for us.”

It came as a slight surprise when Mount was not included in the squad to face Ipswich last time out, but he is expected to come back into contention for Sunday’s north-west trip to take on the Toffees.

Mason Mount is edging nearer to a return after taking part in full training this week.

He built up a promising understanding with summer arrival Andrey Santos during United’s early pre-season friendlies, and that pairing could make its competitive debut here, a change that would likely see Youri Tielemans move to the bench.

Another new signing, Carlos Baleba, may also have been in line to start, but he joined the club carrying an ankle injury and is not expected back for another couple of weeks.

Benjamin Sesko made an appearance from the bench against Ipswich after recovering from the shin injury he picked up last season.

After putting five past the Tractor Boys, though, Carrick has little reason to make sweeping changes.

Matheus Cunha is set to spearhead the attack once more, with Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbeumo and the undroppable Bruno Fernandes operating behind him. Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo remains unavailable.

Few alterations are anticipated in defence either, with Carrick appearing settled on a back four of Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw in front of Senne Lammens.
