Once again a big statement has come out regarding the relations between India and America. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tops US President Donald Trump’s list of favorite global leaders. He said that if Trump is asked who among the 35 world leaders he would like to meet, then Prime Minister Modi’s name will come first.

Sergio Gore, while talking about India-US relations in an exclusive interview, said that President Trump considers Prime Minister Modi as his friend. According to him, the personal relations between the two leaders are playing an important role in strengthening India-US relations.

India-America relations are continuously getting stronger

The US Ambassador said that relations between India and America are continuously strengthening. Both the countries are working together in many areas including trade, technology, pharma, space, defense and military exercises. According to Gore, the increasing cooperation between the two countries is not limited only to the political level, but is also continuously expanding in business and strategic areas.

The recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump also indicates this growing cooperation. In June 2026, the two leaders met during the G7 summit in Evian, France. During this, many issues including defence, energy, strategic technology and trade were discussed.

Modi-Trump may come face to face again in December

The US Ambassador has indicated that Prime Minister Modi and President Trump may meet during the G20 summit to be held in Florida in December. However, the official announcement of a separate bilateral meeting between the two leaders has not been made yet. Gore said that if President Trump were asked whom among the approximately 35 leaders attending the conference he would like to meet first, Prime Minister Modi would be at the top of his list. He also indicated that Trump may visit India next year. However, no official announcement has been made yet about this tour.

American ambassador also gave a big update on trade deal

Sergio Gore has also given positive indications regarding the proposed trade agreement between India and America. He said that talks are going on between America and India and both the countries are very close to the agreement. According to Gore, after a decision of the Supreme Court, some work on the trade agreement has to be done again, but the talks are on track. He expressed hope that the deal can be finalized in the coming months. Bilateral trade between India and America is currently about 240 billion dollars. Both the countries have set a target of taking it to 500 billion dollars in the coming years.

Confidence is also increasing in defense sector

The US Ambassador described India as a reliable defense partner of America. He said that the defense relationship between the two countries is not limited to just buying and selling of arms, but also includes mutual trust. Joint military exercises and defense cooperation between India and America are continuously increasing. Both the countries are also working on increasing cooperation in strategic technology and defense projects.

America’s eyes on India also regarding Quad

Sergio Gore also described Quad, the organization of India, America, Japan and Australia, as very important. He said that the four countries are working together in areas like artificial intelligence, data centres, critical minerals, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and defense cooperation. The US Ambassador said that Washington is very keen on the summit of Quad leaders.

‘Other countries are jealous of India-America relations’

Referring to the increasing activities in India-US relations, Gore said that the direction of relations is clearly visible from the continuously increasing trade, military exercises and high-level visits between the two countries. He said that every week there is contact between the two countries at some level or the other. According to him, the growing partnership between India and America is becoming a matter of envy for other countries as well.

Sergio Gore’s statement has come at a time when continuous talks are going on in India-US relations regarding trade, defense and strategic cooperation. On one hand, both the countries are trying to take forward the trade agreement, while on the other hand, cooperation is also increasing on strategic platforms like defence, technology and Quad.
