Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski has said he needs his car to get home after away matches as the Premier League player faces a possible driving ban after being caught speeding on multiple occasions.

The 26-year-old Sweden international is being prosecuted by the Metropolitan Police after he was caught speeding in his Audi through the Limehouse Link tunnel in September last year.

Kulusevski, who missed the entirety of last season and the 2026 World Cup because of injury, pleaded guilty to the speeding offence last week after a camera recorded him travelling at 43mph in a 30mph zone at 3.39pm on 28 September last year.

In written submissions to the court, the Metropolitan Police said Kulusevski would now have at least 12 penalty points on his licence, leaving him at risk of a six-month driving ban.

The footballer, who has scored 25 goals for Spurs since joining the club in 2022, sent an email to the court setting out the mitigating circumstances in his case.

He said he would not be able to attend court in person because he is in training “after a one year injury as a professional footballer”.

Kulusevski, who missed the whole of last season and the 2026 World Cup through injury, pleaded guilty to the speeding offence last week, after a camera clocked him at 43mph in a 30mph limit at 3.39pm on 28 September last year.

“I would ask that when you are considering my case you take the following mitigating circumstances into consideration as an appeal”, he wrote.

“My young family need me to drive them to various appointments and in case there are necessities to go to a hospital with them I have to be on hand.

“I also drive to work and back where the hours can be antisocial eg. I return from an away game very late at night.”

Kulusevski also said that his “speeding offences were mostly just over the varying speed limits in London areas”.

He added: “However, I understand I was over the speed limit.”

Kulusevski submitted a guilty plea for his latest speeding offence through the Single Justice Procedure, and the case has now been sent for a sentencing hearing on 21 September at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.

Drivers who reach 12 penalty points on their licence can ask a magistrate to spare them from a six-month ban.

However, they must show that a disqualification would cause “exceptional hardship” if it is imposed.
