Matthias Jaissle has said he wants Lewis Hall to stay at Newcastle United for the long term.

Hall attracted interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window, although the club never made a formal bid for the left-back.

Asked in August by former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel about Hall’s links with the Red Devils, Jaissle said there was “no chance” of such a move taking place.

Even so, Manchester United are expected to continue monitoring the player in the coming months.

Jaissle has nevertheless underlined that Hall is a major part of his plans on Tyneside.

“He’s a huge, huge potential player,” Jaissle said.

“He’s delivering already on a high level, but we all know that there’s much more to come.

“We’re really excited that he is a part of that team and hopefully also in the long term.”

Newcastle’s head coach also acknowledged that interest in Hall is likely to continue, saying that “for sure he will have also interest in winter, like also many other players, every window there will be interest for players of us”.

Jaissle stressed, however, that Newcastle “count on” Hall.

Also set to remain at Newcastle are Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock, both of whom were linked with moves away during the summer.

Newcastle rejected bids from Nottingham Forest for Murphy, while Willock’s proposed transfer to Besiktas in Turkey collapsed partly because of the strong start he has made to the season.

There were reports that Jaissle played a central role in both decisions, and he said: “The lads were doing good in the pre-season.

“They showed their quality, I think they still have potential to even do better, and therefore we made the decision that this is the final squad.”
