Veteran actor Asrani’s final screen appearance was set to reach audiences in Haiwaanmonths after the Khatta Meetha actor’s death. Ahead of the film’s release, Akshay Kumar shared a clip from the film and remembered his experience of working with the late comedy actor.
Akshay posted the video on Instagram on Friday. The scene featured Asrani alongside Sharib Hashmi in a light exchange about his character’s name.
When Hashmi’s character asked his name, Asrani replied, “Hussain.” He was then asked about his surname and whether there was anything before or after his name.
Asrani's character responded, “Peeche hawaldaar hai aur aage aap hain.”
Akshay shared the clip along with a note for the veteran actor. He wrote, “My good fortune that I got to work with this legend and see him give his last ever shot in Haiwaan. Miss you, Asrani ji…there can be no one like you.”
The post also drew messages from fans, who remembered Asrani and his work in Hindi cinema.
Asrani and Akshay had appeared together in several films, including Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana, Garam Masala, Deewane is crazy, Bhagam BhagPhir Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Welcome, De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha.
Haiwaan was directed by Priyadarshan and was described as the Hindi remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppamwhich starred Mohanlal.
Saif Ali Khan played a visually impaired martial artist in the film, while Akshay Kumar played the antagonist. The cast also included Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rajpal Yadav and Sharib Hashmi.
The film marked Akshay and Saif’s return to the screen together after Tashan. Haiwaan was scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11.
