Railway Apprentice 2026: Southern Railway has announced an apprenticeship recruitment drive for candidates wishing to gain experience working with the railways. The official notification for this recruitment has been released. Notably, no written examination will be conducted for the selection of candidates; instead, eligible candidates will be selected based on their qualifications and experience in the respective trades.

A total of 4,471 apprentice positions will be filled under this recruitment drive. Of these, 163 posts are designated for 'Fresher' candidates, and 4,308 posts are for 'Ex-ITI' candidates. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online from August 28, 2026, to September 27, 2026 (until 5:00 PM). Apprenticeship opportunities will be offered in trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Welder, COPA, Painter, and other related trades.

Selected candidates may receive a monthly stipend ranging from ₹8,200 to ₹9,600 during the training period. This is an excellent opportunity for young individuals to receive practical training at various Southern Railway workshops.

Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Who can apply?

Educational Qualification: For the 'Fresher' category (Fitter, Painter, and Welder trades), candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in Class 10. For the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) post, a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is required.

Candidates in the 'Ex-ITI' category must possess an ITI certificate from an NCVT/SCVT-recognized institute in the relevant trade, along with at least 50% marks in Class 10. Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible for this recruitment.

Age Limit: The minimum age is 15 years and the maximum age is 22 years for the 'Fresher' category. For the 'Ex-ITI' and 'MLT' categories, the maximum age limit is 24 years. Age will be calculated as of September 27, 2026. Candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBC, PwD, and Ex-serviceman categories will be granted age relaxation in accordance with government regulations.

Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Application Process and Fee

Candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of Southern Railway. During the application process, candidates must provide personal, educational, and trade-related details, as well as upload photographs, signatures, and necessary certificates. The application fee is ₹100 for General/UR candidates, while SC/ST/PwD candidates are exempted from the fee.

There will be no written examination for this recruitment. Candidates will be selected based on a merit list prepared using the marks obtained in the 10th, 12th, and ITI examinations. This will be followed by document verification, and the final selection will be based on medical fitness.
