Manchester United have confirmed the permanent exit of young forward Gabriele Biancheri to Austrian club FC Wacker Innsbruck, with the transfer being completed even after the English transfer window had shut. The switch was possible because the registration deadline in Austria stays open until Thursday evening, giving the attacker the chance to pursue a fresh opportunity outside England.

Late move to Austria

As per the Manchester Evening News, Biancheri has officially departed Manchester United to sign for Austrian second-division side FC Wacker Innsbruck. While the transfer market in England closed at 11pm on Tuesday, clubs are still permitted to approve departures to countries where the window remains open. Austria’s deadline runs until Thursday, which allowed this permanent transfer to go through.

Biancheri joined Manchester United from Cardiff City in 2023, but he did not make a first-team appearance under manager Michael Carrick. The striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Rotherham United, where he made 11 appearances.

Other recent departures

Biancheri is not the only player to leave Manchester United after the English deadline passed on Tuesday. Earlier on Thursday, the club also approved a temporary departure for Chido Obi. Obi sealed a season-long loan move to Willem II in the Netherlands as he looks for regular first-team football. Although Manchester United concentrated heavily on outgoings over the last few days, they decided not to add any new signings on deadline day. The club had a fairly quiet finish to the window despite trying to sign Leicester City defender Louis Page before time expired.

Summer midfield reinforcements

Earlier in the summer, Manchester United were very active in strengthening Michael Carrick’s squad. The club viewed midfield as a priority area, which resulted in the arrivals of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow also arrived at Old Trafford to add further depth. These signings are expected to have an important role as Manchester United look to gather momentum in the Premier League. The side have already shown encouraging signs, claiming their first win of the campaign with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend.
