PayPal India layoffs 2026 News: Another shocking news has come out for the job seekers. Globally known company PayPal has started laying off its employees in large numbers in India. The company will repatriate nearly a quarter of India's 25% people. This is not just an India thing, but the company is transforming itself globally. The company has taken this decision to increase the use of AI and reduce costs.

Exactly how many people will be affected?

According to sources PayPal has around 6700 employees working in India. Of that 25%, around 1,600 to 1,700 people have either been evacuated or are in the process of being evacuated.

A PayPal spokesperson said, “We are making major changes to our company. These changes are necessary to simplify our work, accelerate our work and grow the company for the future. Decisions like these are never easy to make. We know the impact this has on our employees. We will support them during this time.” But he did not give a clear figure on how many people were removed from India. PayPal Layoffs in India:

There will be 20% job cuts worldwide

According to news in May 2026, PayPal will cut 20% of its workforce worldwide over the next few years. Around 4,760 positions will be impacted. As per the company report, PayPal had 23,800 employees worldwide as of December 31, 2025. 41% of them were in the US and the rest were from other countries. Half of the workforce i.e. 49% work in technology department.

PayPal has two major offices in India, one in Chennai and the other in Bangalore. They have the largest tech team outside the US in India. People here work on big things like PayPal's payment platform, cloud, mobile app, AI, data science, blockchain. India is a very important place for the company, yet this is where the job cuts are happening.

This is not the first time this is happening

PayPal has been focusing on cost reduction continuously for the past few years. In the second quarter of 2025, the company launched the “2Q 2025 Plan”. This included a plan to change their technology, cut costs and reduce manpower. This plan will last for 18 to 42 months. The company had said that the manpower reduction work will be completed by 2027 and the technology work by 2028.

In early 2025, however, the company laid people off due to a new rule. In 2024 and 2023, however, the company had cut jobs globally. Then the company said that we want to simplify our work and reduce costs.

Just this week, PayPal also laid off 160 employees in Ireland, which is 12% of its total workforce. Overall, big companies are now laying off people in the name of AI, and this is a big warning for IT workers in India.
