Manchester City have officially completed the short-term loan signing of England international goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse from National Women’s Soccer League side Orlando Pride. The experienced shot-stopper returns to the Women’s Super League to provide important cover for the English champions until January, after Khiara Keating’s departure to Liverpool.

City strengthen their goalkeeping unit

Manchester City have successfully brought Moorhouse back to England on a loan deal that will run until January 2027. The move comes as City seek to strengthen their squad after Keating’s transfer to Liverpool, which left manager Andree Jeglertz with limited experienced backup options behind first-choice goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita.

Moorhouse arrives after setting the NWSL single-season clean sheet record with 13 shutouts during Orlando Pride’s 2024 Shield and Championship double. Although she has endured a difficult current campaign in the United States, the switch gives Moorhouse an opportunity to reset in familiar surroundings while also helping City in their title defence and forthcoming European campaign.

Moorhouse embraces the fresh challenge

Speaking directly to club media, Moorhouse shared her delight at returning to England to join the reigning champions. Explaining her reasons for making the move, she said: "It’s a new challenge, and a different style of play. I’m happy to be here and to get started. From top to bottom last season was incredible for City and I’m happy to be here with the champions of England. When a club like Manchester City calls, you have to answer."

Moorhouse arrives with significant pedigree, having won Euro 2025 with Sarina Wiegman’s squad. She currently has two international caps, and kept clean sheets in both appearances.

Sjogran hails an important addition

Manchester City Women Director of Football Therese Sjogran underlined the significance of bringing in a player with such pedigree for the rest of the domestic season.

Sjogran told the club’s website: "Anna is a goalkeeper with outstanding experience and a proven record of performing at the highest level. She has won major honours in the WSL, with Orlando Pride and England, and her consistency, character and quality will be a valuable addition to our squad. We are delighted to welcome Anna to Manchester City and look forward to working with her during her time with us."

What comes next for Moorhouse?

Moorhouse will immediately link up with the Manchester City squad as they prepare to defend their Women’s Super League crown this Sunday. While Yamashita is expected to remain the first-choice starter, Moorhouse will need to stay ready to step in during a packed fixture schedule that also includes European commitments. She will be aiming to secure regular minutes ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
