Wayve and Uber have launched London’s first self-driving taxi fleet, with human safety drivers supervising the vehicles. Passengers booking UberX, Uber Electric or Uber Comfort may be matched with an autonomous Ford Mustang Mach-E at no extra cost. The rollout is part of plans to expand Wayve-powered vehicles across 12 global markets.

London, September 3, 2026: UK-based Wayve Technologies and American multinational Uber on Thursday launched their first fleet of self-driving taxis on London's streets, with human safety drivers supervising the vehicles during the initial phase.

Passengers in the UK capital who book UberX, Uber Electric or Uber Comfort rides may be matched, at no additional cost, with an all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E fitted with the Wayve AI Driver.

The robotaxis are equipped with surround sensors and will initially have a human safety driver behind the wheel to monitor each journey. The driver can take control of the vehicle or apply the brakes when required.

“We’re proud to introduce the Wayve AI Driver to the public for the first time right here in London, our home city and one of the most complex driving environments in the world,” said Alex Kendall, CEO and co-founder of Wayve, a London-headquartered technology company.
