Manchester United have reportedly finalised an agreement with a club overseas.

Manchester United are close to wrapping up a move with Dutch side Willem II that will see one of the Red Devils’ most highly rated young players spend the season away on loan.

Michael Carrick’s senior figures have put together some smart incoming business this summer, bringing in the likes of Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to strengthen the squad.

However, the club have not been nearly as effective when it comes to moving on unwanted or unused players and clearing them from the wage bill, especially over the past few years.

Dutch publication Voetbal International reports that 18-year-old wonderkid Chido Obi is close to joining Willem II on loan for the 2026/27 campaign.

Last month, reports in the Netherlands said Feyenoord were showing strong interest in the youngster’s immediate future, but it now looks as though Obi will be playing in Tilburg this season.

Obi first rose to prominence in Arsenal’s Hale End academy. He made his under-21 debut at the age of only 15 and grabbed international attention when he scored 10 goals in a 14-3 win over Liverpool at under-16 level.

The Denmark youth international moved to Manchester United in 2024, along with Ayden Heaven, in search of greater playing opportunities.

Obi was given his Premier League debut by Ruben Amorim in February 2025 and, against Brentford a few months later, became the youngest player to start a Premier League match for Manchester United at just 17 years and 156 days. Overall, though, breaking into the first team has proved difficult, and he has managed only seven Premier League appearances so far.

Obi’s challenge at Old Trafford is far from straightforward, considering he has to dislodge the £200m trio of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

FourFourTwo understands that the club still rate Obi highly and would rather sanction a loan move, although they would not rule out a sale if a bid they considered acceptable was made.

Although the English transfer window shut at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1, clubs in the Netherlands can still complete deals until 11pm BST on Wednesday, September 2.

Willem II were promoted from the Eerste Divisie last season and are still without a win after three Eredivisie matches in 2026/27.

According to Transfermarkt, Obi is valued at €5m.
