Former Indian Air Force Group Captain and Vir Chakra winner Abhinandan Vardhaman has now joined Goa-based regional airline ‘Fly91’ as a pilot. Abhinandan Vardhaman, who shot down the Pakistani fighter jet F-16 in the year 2019 and brightened the country with his heroism, has now started a new journey in the field of commercial aviation after retiring from the Indian Air Force.
Abhinandan Vardhaman’s new journey with Fly-91Abhinandan Vardhaman, a gallant former Group Captain of the Indian Air Force and Vir Chakra winner, has now started working as a pilot in Goa’s regional airline ‘Fly91’ after completing his military service. According to sources, he joined this private airline in the month of August itself. During the dogfight between India and Pakistan in 2019, he shot down Pakistan’s state-of-the-art F-16 aircraft with his MiG-21 Bison aircraft, due to which he came into global discussion. For this feat he was awarded the third highest wartime gallantry award ‘Veer Chakra’ by the Government of India.
Abhinandan Vardhaman left the Indian Air Force on 31 MarchWhen he shot down a Pakistani plane, his own plane was also hit by a missile, forcing him to jump by parachute. Meanwhile, he remained in Pakistan’s custody for about 60 hours, but due to diplomatic pressure from the Indian government, Pakistan had to send him back to India unharmed on 1 March 2019. Abhinandan Vardhaman left the Indian Air Force on March 31 and is now serving in the civil aviation sector.
However, a Fly91 airline spokesperson has not yet made any official confirmation on the matter and has termed the personal information of the employees as confidential. Launched in March 2024, the airline currently has 6 ATR 72-600 aircraft and its main hubs are located at Goa and Hyderabad. Former Wing Commander and now Group Captain, Abhinandan joining this airline is a matter of great pride for the Indian aviation sector. Even after his army career, his love for country and sky remained intact, which will always be an inspiration to the youth of the country
