Virtual meeting of Joint Working Group on trade and investment held between India and Afghanistan Country-Foreign

New Delhi, 2 September 2026: India-Afghanistan Joint Working Group (JWG) on Trade, Commerce and Investment was held virtually on September 1, 2026. The meeting was attended by officials from India and Afghanistan, including representatives of commerce, industry, customs, regulatory officials and diplomatic missions. Both sides reviewed various issues to bilateral trade and economic cooperation and discussed measures to further ease trade and strengthen trade relations between the two countries.

Key topics of discussion include trade facilitation and cooperation in customs, visa facilities for Afghan businessmen, banking and financial cooperation, pharmaceutical and agricultural trade, energy cooperation, investment and trade promotion, tariff reduction, cargo connectivity and port- issues. Both sides agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation and take further steps in the identified areas. These areas include enhanced cooperation in customs and data-sharing, regulatory cooperation in the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors, improved trade engagement, and investment promotion and business-to-business engagement. This meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthen India-Afghanistan trade, commerce and investment relations and agreed to maintain regular dialogue on the issues discussed.
