Dating Trends: Before going on a date, people usually wear nice clothes, comb their hair, apply perfume and try to impress the other person with good fragrance. But now its opposite trend is in discussion in the world of social media. Some people are even avoiding bathing and applying deodorant before going on a date. They believe that natural body odor can help increase attractiveness. This strange trend is being called ‘pheromone-maxing’. This is a new form of the increasingly popular ‘maxing’ trend on the Internet, in which people try to maximize some aspect of their body or life.
What is ‘pheromone-maxing’?
The whole idea of ’pheromone-maxing’ revolves around the body’s natural odour. Its supporters believe that natural chemical signals released from the body can influence the attraction or behavior of another person. Due to this thinking, some people are avoiding bathing, using soap and deodorant before a date. Their argument is that excessive cleaning can eliminate the body’s natural odor and along with it, the so-called ‘attraction signals’ can also be washed away.
Some people started enhancing the natural smell
According to reports, some people who are taking this trend seriously are not only avoiding bathing and deodorant, but are also adopting things like re-wearing unwashed clothes. They believe that this will retain the body’s natural ‘musk’ smell. Various claims are being made on social media regarding the trend. In some very strange claims, activities like drinking urine in the name of removing toxic substances from the body have also been mentioned. However, there is no reliable scientific basis to support such methods.
Do humans really have pheromones?
This is where the most important scientific aspect of this trend comes to the fore. In animals, pheromones are chemical substances that can influence the behavior or reaction of other members of the same species. But no concrete scientific evidence has been found yet that there is any special chemical signal present in humans, which can definitely attract one person towards another. That is, just maintaining your natural smell will increase your attractiveness on a date, such a claim has not been proven by science.
The ‘sweaty T-shirt’ experiment had definitely aroused interest.
Scientists have conducted many studies regarding the natural smell of the human body. The famous ‘Sweaty T-shirt’ experiment conducted in 1995 was also in this direction. It indicated that people can perceive the natural scent of a potential partner in different ways. However, in later research the results were not the same. Scientists have not yet been able to identify any specific human chemical that can reliably create attraction in one person for another.
There is a difference between natural smell and body odor
From a scientific point of view, the natural smell of the body depends on many things. Factors like heredity, diet and environment can play a role in this. Therefore, the natural smell of every person may be different. But natural smell does not mean that not bathing for several days before a date or wearing dirty clothes is a scientific formula for attraction. Natural scent and deliberately enhancing body odor are two completely different things.
Don’t ignore hygiene while dating
‘Pheromone-maxing’ may have become a new and interesting trend on social media, but the scientific claims behind it have not been proven yet. In such a situation, the better option is to take bath, wear clean clothes and take care of personal hygiene before going on a date. After all, natural confidence and good personal hygiene are more powerful than any viral internet trend in impressing someone.
