Manchester United have still not walked away from the possibility of signing Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to a report.

Hall was Manchester United’s leading target at left-back during the summer transfer window.

There were reports that Newcastle would have sold Hall to Manchester United on the final day of the summer transfer window if an offer of £75million had arrived.

Manchester United did not make that bid, and the England international, who can also operate in midfield, has remained at Newcastle.

Even so, Manchester United are not abandoning hopes of trying to complete a move for Hall in 2027.

According to The Sun, Manchester United still hold long-term interest in Hall and have been putting the groundwork in place for a possible move for the Newcastle player next year, much like the Red Devils’ co-owners, INEOS, did in the case of Carlos Baleba.

Manchester United attempted to sign Baleba last summer, but the Premier League club were unwilling to meet the £100million+ valuation set by Brighton and Hove Albion.

Baleba wanted to move to Manchester United last summer, and the midfielder finally got that transfer late last month when the Red Devils signed him from Brighton for £70million.

The Sun has reported that Hall also wanted to leave Newcastle for Manchester United this summer.

The report said: ‘They left it too late with Lewis Hall, keen to join the exodus at Newcastle.

‘United were encouraged by Hall’s annoyance with Eddie Howe, whom he blamed for missing out on an England World Cup squad place.

‘After Howe left, Hall was still looking to depart. ‘Maybe it’s time,’ one of Hall’s inner circle said.

‘United held informal discussions but a source close to Hall said Newcastle ‘shut that down’.

‘United are possibly playing the long game again, as they did with Baleba.

‘United enquired about Baleba 12 months before he was driven into their Carrington training complex.

‘Hall will be into the final two years of his existing contract next summer.’

Manchester United signed midfielders Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils also moved to sort out their goalkeeping options by bringing Karl Darlow into the squad.

Manchester United wanted to recruit a left-back, and it is very likely that they will look at that position again when the transfer window reopens in January.

Although Newcastle would be extremely reluctant to sell Hall in the middle of the season, Manchester United could yet make a move for him next season and turn him into their first signing of 2027.
