Manchester United got back to winning ways with a commanding 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend.
After the embarrassing loss to Hull City the previous weekend, the Old Trafford crowd finally had reason to cheer on Sunday evening.
That came despite heavy rain taking over the final 15 minutes of the match, as the skies opened up over Manchester.
United are already well known to be planning a new stadium, and their historic home, Old Trafford, continues to be dogged by familiar issues that are regularly brought into focus.
One of the main concerns is the leaking roof, which can turn parts of Old Trafford into a waterfall when streams of water pour down from above and drench supporters sitting underneath.
According to the Daily Mail, “the club have launched a review of the latest problem and will make any necessary repairs, although insiders point out that the biblical scale of the storm was a mitigating factor and say other clubs have experienced similar issues.”
Among the other work carried out at the ground this summer, United tore up and relaid the pitch, while also replacing the foundations and drainage system. The final alteration was extending “the playing surface to get rid of a hazardous drop-off around the perimeter.”
The problems were not confined to outside the stadium either, with issues also reported inside Old Trafford on its return for the 2026/2027 season.
The Mail further reported, “United fans in plush hospitality suites costing as much as £5,000-a-year have been left furious at the standard of food and drink.”
At least one supporter has already submitted a complaint over the poor quality of the food and has asked for compensation.
In fact, “another fan claimed a hostess in the 1968 Suite was reduced to tears because of the volume of complaints. The supporter described it as ‘the worst corporate hospitality I’ve ever experienced at any sporting event’.”
It has even been suggested that some supporters opted to order from the children’s menu because of the poor standard of the food available.
Many fans are blaming Jim Ratcliffe for cutting costs and for switching caterers back in June.
