New Delhi. 29-year-old throwball player Amardeep Kumar from Jharkhand has brought glory to India at the international level (International Baccalaureate) and won four gold medals, but despite these achievements, his life is still going through struggles. Due to not getting a government job and incentive amount, Amardeep has to sell vegetables at Argora Chowk in Ranchi to meet the needs of his family. Apart from this, he also drives a cab. After the condition of the player came to light, now Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has taken cognizance of the matter and has instructed the Sports Department to take immediate action on it.

Amardeep made throwball his career from an early age. After hard work, he represented India in international competitions and consistently performed brilliantly. In the year 2015, he won his first international gold medal in the Asian Junior Throwball Championship held in Malaysia. After this, he was also a part of the gold medal winning team in the Indo Nepal Throwball Championship held in Kathmandu in the year 2017. He also won gold in the South Asian Throwball Championship held in Bengaluru in the year 2019. Amardeep once again won the gold medal in the competition held in Ranchi in the year 2026. In this way, he has four international gold medals in his account for the country.

Despite such great sporting achievements, Amardeep could not get a government job. He says that he has been trying at the government level for incentive money since 2016. I started trying for a job from the year 2020 but the process got affected due to the Corona epidemic. After the year 2022, he again made continuous efforts but till now he has not got success. He claims that his applications to job and cash award are still pending.

Amardeep says that he left no stone unturned in putting his problem before the government. He has also met former state sports minister Hafizul Hasan. He says that many of his fellow players are from other states and there they have got many facilities including government jobs. In comparison, in Jharkhand they are still waiting for relief on their application.

The financial condition of the family also makes Amardeep's struggle more difficult. His father supports the family by selling vegetables and Amardeep also helps him in his work. His mother is a housewife and sells about 35 kg of vegetables door to door. The elder brother contributes to the family's income by running a fast food stall. Amardeep himself also drives a cab when needed. Many times, it becomes a challenge for them to reach for practice in the morning after driving a cab at night.

Amardeep had to face financial problems even to participate in international competitions. While going to Malaysia, he had to take a loan of about Rs 65 thousand. Jharkhand Throwball Association also helped in their expenses and bore almost half the amount. Despite this, amidst financial difficulties, Amardeep has not broken his ties with sports.

Now after his story came to light, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has instructed the Sports Department to look into the matter and take necessary action. After this, Sports Minister Sudivya Sonu also said that the government is exploring the possibilities of giving job to Amardeep on the basis of the current sports policy. Besides, other employment options are also being considered.

Amardeep's struggle is not over yet. He is preparing to represent India in the competition to be held in Sri Lanka in late October 2026. On one hand, the passion of winning medals for the country remains intact, while on the other hand, the responsibility of running the family also rests on his shoulders. Amardeep's story brings forward the challenge of those players who win medals for the country on the international stage but still have to struggle to secure their future.
