The transfer window following the 2026 World Cup has produced record fees, unexpected departures and major squad rebuilds across European football.

Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson have become two of the most expensive British footballers in history, while Real Madrid has committed a huge sum to 19-year-old Yan Diomande.

1. Enzo Fernandez

• Price: Approximately €145 million

Enzo Fernandez became the biggest bang of the summer transfer window, with Manchester City smashing its transfer record not once, but twice.

This time, it was for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who reunited with Enzo Maresca after their previous stint at Stamford Bridge. An hour after the 25-year-old posted a farewell message to Chelsea on social media, City confirmed ‌that it had completed the deal, smashing its transfer record for the ​second time during the summer transfer window.

“Manchester City are the most successful ⁠club in England in recent times,” Fernandez, who has signed a five-year contract, told City’s website. “Every player wants to be part of a club like this because everyone knows how well-run City ‌are.

“I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club ‌built for success.”

2. Morgan Rogers

• Price: Approximately €138 million
• From: Aston Villa
• To: Chelsea

Rogers became the most expensive British footballer when Chelsea reportedly paid £117 million to sign him from Aston Villa. The England international has already made an immediate impression, scoring on his Chelsea debut in a 3-2 Premier League victory over Fulham.

The 24-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder, on the left or closer to the striker. His power, close control, and ability to carry the ball through pressure give Xabi Alonso another dangerous attacker alongside Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro.

3. Elliot Anderson

• Price: Approximately €135 million
• From: Nottingham Forest
• To: Manchester City

Elliot Anderson played all 38 EPL matches for Nottingham last season, registering four goals and four assists.

Manchester City broke its transfer record by paying approximately €135 million for Anderson. The 23-year-old signed a five-year contract after developing into one of the Premier League’s most complete central midfielders at Nottingham Forest.

Anderson had more touches than any other Premier League player last season and completed more passes than any other midfielder. He also covered 411 kilometers and made 104 tackles. Following Rodri’s departure, Anderson gives City a reliable midfielder capable of contributing in and out of possession.

4. Yan Diomande

• Price: €125 million (rising to €135 million)
• From: RB Leipzig
• To: Real Madrid

Yan Diomande recorded 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances for RB Leipzig during 2025-26 campaign.

Diomande’s move is one of the most remarkable transfers of the window. The Ivorian had only made his senior debut for Leganes in March 2025, but his rapid development at RB Leipzig convinced Real Madrid to pay a reported guaranteed fee of €125 million. Another €10 million could be payable through add-ons. He has signed a seven-year contract until 2033.

The 19-year-old brings acceleration, direct running, and exceptional one-on-one ability. He can play on either wing and gives Madrid another unpredictable attacker alongside Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.

5. Sandro Tonali

• Price: Approximately €108 million (rising to €117 million)
• From: Newcastle United
• To: Tottenham Hotspur

Sandro Tonali made 53 appearances for Newcastle United last season, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.

Tottenham’s move for Tonali was among the window’s biggest surprises. The Spurs paid an initial £92.5 million, about €108 million, with add-ons that could take the deal to £100 million, or about €117 million. Tonali reportedly wanted the move partly for the chance to work under fellow Italian De Zerbi.

The Italy international provides tactical intelligence, defensive aggression and the ability to dictate play from deep.

6. Mateus Fernandes

• To: Tottenham Hotspur

Mateus Fernandes registered five goals and five assists in 42 appearances for West Ham United last season.

Tottenham paid approximately €99 million for Fernandes after just one season at West Ham. The Portugal international registered four goals and four assists in 38 appearances during a campaign that ended with West Ham’s relegation. His transfer briefly broke Tottenham’s club record before Tonali arrived four days later.

Fernandes is a mobile, technically secure midfielder who can carry possession. Paying close to €100 million for a 22-year-old with only two full Premier League seasons is a risk, but Spurs have invested in a player who could anchor its midfield for several years.

7. Ayyoub Bouaddi

City’s decision to pay an initial €95 million for Bouaddi is an enormous commitment to an 18-year-old. City could pay a further €5 million through performance- add-ons. The Morocco international established himself in Lille’s midfield as a teenager and appeared in five of his country’s six matches at the 2026 World Cup.

Bouaddi is composed under pressure and positionally disciplined. These qualities make him a long-term candidate for the position vacated by Rodri.

8. Savinho

• Price: Approximately €87.5 million (rising to €99 million including add-ons)
• From: Manchester City
• To: Tottenham Hotspur

Savio made 84 appearances and scored seven goals across two seasons at Manchester City.

Tottenham continued its extraordinary spending by signing Savinho for an initial €87.5 million. A further €10 million in potential add-ons could bring the total package close to €99 million. The Brazilian left City after making 84 appearances and scoring seven goals over two seasons.

Savinho was unable to become an undisputed starter at City, but his pace, dribbling, and ability to play on either wing make him a natural fit for De Zerbi’s attacking system.

9. Bruno Guimaraes

• Price: Approximately €87.5 million
• From: Newcastle United
• To: Arsenal

Bruno Guimaraes scored nine goals and five assists in 29 EPL appearances for Newcastle United last season.

Arsenal signed Guimaraes for approximately €87.5 million after the Brazilian informed Newcastle he wanted a new challenge. The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract, with Arsenal holding an option to extend it by another season.

Guimaraes was Newcastle’s captain and scored nine goals last season.

10. Anthony Gordon

• To: Barcelona

Barcelona agreed a package worth approximately €80 million to sign Gordon after the England international scored 17 goals in all competitions last season. The deal reportedly contains an initial €70 million payment and a further €10 million in potential add-ons. Gordon has signed a five-year contract.
