St. Kitts, September 2: The 23rd match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 took place at Warner Park, featuring the Barbados Tridents against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Despite a stellar century from Quinton de Kock, the Barbados Tridents faced a 6-wicket defeat.
Winning the toss, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots opted to bowl first. The Barbados Tridents, batting first, managed to score 217 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, largely thanks to de Kock's impressive century.
Coming in at number three, de Kock played a remarkable innings, scoring 106 runs off 57 balls, including 6 sixes and 11 fours. Additionally, opener Jakari Carter contributed significantly with 57 runs from 36 balls, hitting 7 sixes. Shefane Rutherford and captain Chris Green chipped in with 26 and 18 runs, respectively.
For the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Naseem Shah took 2 wickets, while captain Jason Holder and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed 1 wicket each.
Chasing a target of 218 runs, the Barbados Tridents started explosively. Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers formed a formidable opening partnership, amassing 112 runs in just 10.2 overs before Mayers was run out. The left-handed batsman scored 29 runs off 27 balls.
Charles was particularly aggressive, scoring 78 runs off 45 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 6 fours. Promoted to bat at number three, Dasun Shanaka added 36 runs from 22 balls, including 2 sixes and 2 fours. Captain Jason Holder scored 18 runs off 11 balls, while Andre Fletcher finished with an unbeaten 22 runs from just 8 balls, hitting 3 sixes. Wanindu Hasaranga also contributed with an unbeaten 18 runs off 4 balls, leading the team to a total of 220 runs for 4 wickets in just 19.1 overs, securing victory with 5 balls to spare.
