• With changes in border range, new postings on many important posts
• Home Department issued order on the orders of the Governor of Punjab

Chandigarh. A major administrative reshuffle was made in Punjab Police on Tuesday. The State Home Affairs Department (Home-1 Branch) on the orders of the Governor of Punjab has issued transfer and posting orders of 8 IPS officers with immediate effect. In this reshuffle, SSPs of many districts have been changed and changes have been made on a large scale in the border range.

According to the order issued, senior IPS officer Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (SPS: 2004), who was waiting for posting, has been given a bigger responsibility. He has been appointed to the post of IGP Border Range, Amritsar. He will replace Harmanbir Singh.

Meanwhile, Harmanbir Singh (SPS: 2010), who was holding the additional charge of DIG Border Range Amritsar as well as Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, has now been made the full-fledged Commissioner of Police, Amritsar. It is believed that this decision has been taken to further strengthen law and order in a sensitive district like Amritsar.

SSPs of many districts are also included in the transfer list. Bhagirath Singh Meena (RR: 2013), posted as SSP Mansa, has now been appointed as AIG, Personal-1, CPO, Punjab at Police Headquarters. In his place, Vaibhav Chaudhary (RR: 2020), posted at SP Headquarters, Patiala, has been made SSP Mansa.

Similarly, SSPs of Patiala and Mohali have been exchanged. SSP Patiala Varun Sharma (RR:2014) has been appointed as SSP SAS Nagar (Mohali) and SSP SAS Nagar Harmandeep Singh Hans (RR:2015) has been appointed as SSP Patiala.

Changes have also been made in Bathinda district. Suhail Qasim Mir (RR:2017), posted as AIG Personal-1, CPO, Punjab, has been made SSP Bathinda. He will replace Jyoti Yadav. Jyoti Yadav (RR:2019), who was SSP Bathinda, has now been appointed as Commandant, 82nd Battalion, PAP, Chandigarh. She will replace Balwinder Singh, PPS.

Police department officials say that this reshuffle has been done on administrative basis, so that law and order can be improved in the districts. In recent times, the police have been continuously running campaigns to curb drug smuggling and gangster activities in Punjab. In such a situation, these campaigns are expected to gain further momentum with the deployment of new officers.
