Panic due to stabbing in New York's Times Square, woman attacks 2 people; Attacker died in police firing

New York. A sudden stabbing on Monday created panic in the world famous Times Square in New York, USA. A 49-year-old woman took out two large knives from a shopping bag and attacked a man and a woman. Both were rushed to hospital, where the 32-year-old woman died, while the 68-year-old man was reported to be in stable condition.

The policemen who reached the spot after the attack tried for several minutes to convince the woman to give up her weapon. After the woman refused and threatened the police officers, two policemen opened fire. The attacker woman also died due to the bullet.

    Attack outside One Times Square

    According to the New York Police Department, the incident occurred just outside One Times Square. This is the same building where the famous ball drop event is held every year on New Year's Eve.

    The area is one of New York's busiest tourist areas and is usually heavily manned by police. After the incident, security arrangements were increased in the area.

    Take out two knives from the shopping bag

    According to police, a 49-year-old woman from Queens suddenly took out two knives from her shopping bag. After this he first stabbed a 68-year-old man in the stomach and then attacked a 32-year-old woman.

    Both the injured were immediately taken to the hospital. Police said that the woman died during treatment, while the condition of the man is currently stable. Police have not made public the identities of the victims.

    It has also not been made clear whether the two victims were tourists visiting New York or local residents.

    About 10 policemen surrounded the woman

    In the video surfaced on social media, the woman can be seen surrounded by several police officers. Two big knives used in the kitchen were visible in his hands.

    New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that police officers spent several minutes convincing the woman to drop her weapon. When she did not agree, the police also used Taser on her.

    'I am leaving nothing… would love to kill you'

    According to Commissioner Tisch, the woman told police officers, “I'm not giving up anything, I'd rather kill both of you.”

    After this two police officers opened fire on him. In the video shot by passersby, the woman is seen falling to the ground after being shot. The policemen handcuffed him and tried to give him first aid by making him lie on his back.

    Records to mental health found

    Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that the woman had a mental health record with the New York Police Department. However, no arrest record of his has been found.

    Tisch described the incident as an extremely dangerous situation in the middle of Times Square. The police are currently investigating the entire matter.

    No evidence of terrorist attack

    Police have said on the basis of preliminary investigation that at present no evidence has been found which would indicate that the incident was to a terrorist attack.

    The investigating agencies are also probing the reason behind the woman's attack, her mental health history and her activities before the incident.

    Mayor Mamdani said to stand with the families of the victims

    After the incident, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He said that this incident has shattered the lives of the families and the administration will stand with them in the times to come.

    Police are currently investigating the case and the identities of the victims are said to be made public after their families are informed.
