‘Gargoyles’ live-action series hits a roadblock at Disney+

Disney+ has pulled the plug on its live-action Gargoyles reboot.

The Gargoyles reboot was still in the early stages of development at Disney+, but a source revealed to Variety that the project is no longer moving ahead.

In 2023, Disney revealed plans to bring Gargoyles to live action, teaming with writer Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s Atomic Monster to reimagine the animated favorite that aired from 1994 to 1997.

The first signs that the reboot might not move forward came from Greg Weisman, who discussed the project in a ComicsOnline interview.

“That’s dead,” he remarked talking about the future of the project. “I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action.”

Despite not being directly involved with the reboot, Greg’s comments were followed by confirmation from a source close to the project who spoke to multiple outlets.

The live-action reboot was set to follow Goliath, the final survivor of a powerful gargoyle warrior clan that once coexisted with humanity.

After breaking free from a centuries-old curse that left him trapped in stone, Goliath must uncover the truth about his past while protecting New York City with detective Elisa Maza.

The original Walt Disney Television Animation series, created by Greg focused on gargoyles who became stone statues during daylight hours.

Trapped in stone for a thousand years in medieval Scotland, the gargoyles eventually awaken and take on new threats in modern-day New York City.
