0Pakistan have made sweeping changes to their squad ahead of the third and final Test against England at Edgbaston after falling 2-0 behind in the series. The visitors have dropped seven players following their heavy 194-run defeat in the second Test, while five uncapped players have been brought into the squad.
The changes also extend to the coaching staff, with head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul released ahead of the final Test. Pakistan will now look to a significantly revamped squad and backroom setup as they attempt to avoid a series whitewash in Birmingham.
Pakistan Drop Seven Players After England Series Loss Ahead Of Edgbaston Test
Pakistan have made a dramatic overhaul ahead of the third and final Test against England at Edgbaston, releasing seven players after losing the series 2-0. Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, who picked up injuries during the second Test, have been sent home along with Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
The selectors have brought in seven replacements, including five players yet to make their Test debuts. Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Saad Baig, Mohammad Imran Randhawa and Razaullah have received their first Test call-ups, while Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal return to the squad with limited experience in the format.
Pakistan have also made major changes to their coaching staff. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul have been released, with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and former Australia seamer Ashley Noffke stepping in for the final Test. The sweeping changes come after Pakistan suffered an innings-and-103-run defeat at Headingley before losing the Lord’s Test by 194 runs.
The scale of the mid-series overhaul is unprecedented for Pakistan, particularly with the final Test effectively a dead rubber. The visitors have been bowled out for under 200 in all four innings of the series so far and will now try to prevent a 3-0 clean sweep when the Edgbaston Test begins on September 9.
