Carlos Alcaraz has made a brilliant comeback after recovering from injury and has made a place in the second round of the US Open by winning in straight sets. Alcaraz defeated Roman Safiulin. In the women's category, last two-time champion Aryna Sabalenka has also won her first round match. Sabalenka defeated Camila Osorio.

Reigning US Open champion Alcaraz had been out of action since April due to a right wrist injury. He could not play in French Open and Wimbledon. This 23-year-old Spanish player made a great start to his title defense campaign by defeating Roman Safiulin 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday. Alcaraz, the second seed who entered Arthur Ashe Stadium after Sabalenka, looked more comfortable as the match progressed and played a brilliant game. He put his hands over his ears to the immense support from the crowd and raised his fist in the air after a spectacular volley winner in the final game of the match.

Alcaraz can become a strong contender for the title

If seven-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz remains fit, he can soon become a strong contender for the title. Yannick Sinner is out of the US Open due to a knee injury. Whereas Novak Djokovic is out of the first round itself.

“I'm very happy that I got the chance to compete again,” Alcaraz said after the win. The level of tennis will definitely be better. I am happy with the way I played in my first match.

Sabalenka headed for third consecutive title

In women's singles, Sabalenka defeated Camila Osorio 6-4, 6-4 to move closer to becoming the first player to win three consecutive US Open Championships since Serena Williams in 2012–14. She has reached the finals at the final Grand Slam tournament of the year on three previous occasions. Sabalenka recovered from a loss to Coco Gauff in 2023 to win in 2024 and then defended the title last year by defeating Amanda Anisimova. After the match, Sabalenka said, 'I think this is one of my favorite stadiums. I have experienced the best feelings in this stadium.
