Facebook Instagram Malware Advisory I4C: Social Media Platform Facebook And a very dangerous and new method of cyber fraud has come to light on Instagram these days. Cybercriminals are luring users by showing attractive advertisements displaying pornographic content. These ads encourage people to download the APK file of the application from third party sources, which actually turns out to be a serious malware.
In view of this growing cyber threat, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs (I4C) has issued a special advisory warning the citizens of the country to be alert. When a user clicks on this greedy advertisement, they are asked to install APK file directly from external and unknown website instead of official app store like Google Play Store. Through this process, cybercriminals gain full access to users’ mobile phones and steal personal data and banking information.
Strict advice to stay away from these 7 suspicious apps
I4C’s advisory has also revealed the names of some specific apps, which are spreading malware on the pretext of providing pornographic content. These include the following apps:
Night Play
Reloop
Kiss
Vimo
Revo
Nexo
Vixa
All these apps are being spread through social media ads, so users should avoid clicking on such names or any suspicious links associated with them.
Necessary precautions for cyber security and defense
Avoiding downloading any file or APK from unknown websites is the best protection. It is very important to check the official source, ratings and reliability of any app before installing it on mobile. When online activity increases especially during festive days like August and September, it is important to keep your digital data safe by staying away from lucrative offers or links to adult content.
