Napoli are assessing every possible option to finally resolve Scott McTominay’s blister problem after it has troubled the Scotland midfielder for a considerable period. As the weeks have gone by, the issue has also begun to affect the player’s displays, to the extent that the club’s medical team and coaching staff are now looking at a definitive solution.
The problem was also evident in Massimiliano Allegri’s comments after the defeat to Como. Allegri made no attempt to hide that the physical discomfort is inevitably having an impact on McTominay, restricting both his performances and his consistency. Napoli are now keen to tackle the matter at its source so that it does not continue to be a recurring obstacle over the course of the season.
According to Il Mattino, Napoli have not excluded surgery from the options being considered. The objective would be to fix the issue once and for all and allow the midfielder to return to action without the limitations that have held him back in recent weeks.
The upcoming international break could provide the right opportunity to act. Napoli’s fixture list would give the club a useful window to carry out any procedure and oversee the recovery period afterwards, with the hope of having McTominay back at 100 per cent when league action resumes.
