Atletico Madrid gave Julian Alvarez written permission to negotiate a transfer to Barcelona, according to El Chiringuito TV.

Alvarez has made no secret of his wish to join Barcelona this summer, but Atletico have consistently insisted that they would not sell him to a direct rival.

In a major development, journalist Jordi Jota has claimed that the Rojiblancos provided the forward with written approval to discuss a move to the Catalan club.

Jota says he has seen the document.

Alvarez has been an important first-team player for Atletico since arriving from Manchester City in 2024.

He has registered 49 goals and 17 assists in 107 appearances in all competitions.

Even so, his future at the Metropolitano Stadium has been the subject of discussion throughout this summer.

Alvarez is under contract until 2030, but he is looking for a new challenge.
