Chelsea FC have stepped up their late-window search for midfield reinforcements as the Blues reportedly made contact with Manu Kone’s representatives, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed. The Roma midfielder has emerged as one of two options being considered by the Premier League side, alongside Monaco’s Lamine Camara. However, Chelsea’s interest remains exploratory, with no formal bid submitted for Kone so far.

Roma are understood to be determined to retain the 25-year-old, meaning Chelsea face a significant hurdle if they decide to advance their pursuit before the September 1 deadline.

Will Chelsea sign Manu Kone?

Reports suggest that Chelsea have contacted Kone’s agents to assess the possibility of a late move for the France international. The midfielder is reportedly part of a two-man shortlist at Stamford Bridge, with AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara the other candidate.

However, the situation is not yet advanced. Roma have received no formal offer for Kone and remain keen to keep the midfielder at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 25-year-old French player shifted to Roma after developing his reputation as a powerful, progressive midfielder. His performances for the France national football team during the 2026 World Cup further boosted his reputation, attracting attention from several Premier League and other European clubs.

Reports have previously linked Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid with the Frenchman. However, none of those clubs have submitted a formal proposal. AS Roma are reportedly placing a valuation of around €60 million on Koné.

Enzo Fernandez Situation Could Shape Chelsea’s Late Move

Chelsea’s interest in Kone is also understood to be connected to the situation surrounding Enzo Fernandez, with Manchester City reportedly monitoring the Argentina international.

Roma’s position provides another obstacle. The Italian club has little desire to lose a key midfielder this late in the window, particularly without sufficient time to secure a replacement.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Chelsea have limited time to turn their initial contact into a formal proposal. For now, Koné remains an option rather than an imminent Stamford Bridge arrival, while Roma’s €60m valuation could also prove decisive.
