Bengaluru. The bat of 15 year old stormy batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is writing new history. In the first semi-final of Duleep Trophy 2026 against Central Zone in Bengaluru, Vaibhav batted stormily and completed his half-century in just 42 balls. Vaibhav scored a total of 92 runs in 81 balls in the first innings for East Zone on Monday, which included seven sixes and seven fours. This was the best score of Vaibhav's first class career.

During this stormy innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi destroyed a 57 year old record. Vaibhav has now become the youngest batsman to score a half-century in Duleep Trophy. He broke the record of late Lakshman Singh, who had achieved this feat in 1969 at the age of 16 years and 23 days. Vaibhav has scored a half-century at the age of 15 years and 175 days.

This performance of Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also special because he has started making his mark in senior domestic cricket at a very young age. Vaibhav also had to take the responsibility of captaincy on the first day of the semi-finals. East Zone's regular captain Ishan Kishan had to leave the field after suffering an injury on his right wrist.
In the absence of Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi took command of the team for about an hour. During this, he also took a successful DRS as captain, which resulted in the wicket of Central Zone batsman Aryan Juyal. In this way, the experience of captaincy along with batting for Vaibhav in the same match became memorable. In the quarter-final match against North East Zone, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored only 8 runs, but he took 2 wickets while bowling. Vaibhav had told after the match that when he got a chance to bowl, he took it very seriously. He said that when wickets were not available, Ishan Kishan asked him to bowl two-three overs. According to Vaibhav, Ishaan felt that handing him the ball might be a bit risky, but the young player had confidence in himself.
