In today's era, millions of people believe that only the person who worships and performs religious rituals is religious. Whereas in the texts of Sanatan Dharma it is said that karma is religion. In the sixth chapter of Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna told that a person should keep doing his work. Not doing any work is also immoral. For this reason a person should keep doing good deeds in his life. Along with this, it is written in Geeta that a person should give up laziness to improve his life.

Why is it important to work

In Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna said that a person should keep doing his work. Also, Shri Krishna has said that a person cannot remain without doing work even for a moment. One should not worry about the results of one's actions. Through karma a person will be able to get results, without doing karma a person cannot get results.

Neither Kashchitkshanampi Jatu Tishatyakarmakrit.
Karyate hyavash karma sarva prakriti jairgunai.

This means that no person can remain without doing any work even for a moment. The nature of a person is such that he keeps doing work. For this reason, a person should keep doing his work. Along with this, regarding work, Shri Krishna has said that a person has the right only to do work. For this reason, one should not do any work with the expectation of getting the results of the work.

Karmanyevadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachan.
Maa Karmaphalheturbhurma te Sangostvakarmani.

This means that a person's authority lies only in the action, never in its results. Neither do work with the desire for results nor be attached to not doing work. Worrying about results only puts a person in fear, greed and mental bondage, whereas doing the work is in his hands.

The world runs on karma

The Bhagavad Gita states that one's action is not only an individual responsibility, but it is also the basis of the balance of creation. If every person does not work, this world will not survive.

Sahayagya Prajah Srishtva Purovacha Prajapatih.
अनेन परनशिष्यध्वमेश वोऽस्त्विष्टकामधुक.

This means that karma has been considered as Yagya i.e. religion. When a man performs his duty selflessly, he keeps the cycle of society and creation going. That is why it is said that a person should keep doing his work without any selfishness.
