Real Madrid continued their flawless start to Jose Mourinho’s second spell at the Bernabeu with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Malaga, moving back to the top of La Liga.

After a quiet opening, Real Madrid came alive when Jude Bellingham produced a superb solo goal. He was then involved again almost immediately as Madrid struck a second, heading in the rebound after Kylian Mbappe’s effort had been saved.

Mbappe made it three a few minutes later, steering a volley into the bottom corner after an excellent delivery from Trent Alexander-Arnold, before Arda Guler added a late fourth to complete the thrashing.

Los Blancos closed out the match with ease as they preserved their perfect start to the new season under Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid began on the front foot but needed time to carve out any clear opening. That changed when Jude Bellingham took matters into his own hands, driving into the penalty area past several Malaga defenders before slipping the ball under the goalkeeper from a tight angle.

The second goal followed soon after. Brahim Diaz picked out Kylian Mbappe inside the area and the French forward’s sharp turn and shot were well saved, but the rebound fell kindly for the advancing Bellingham, who was in exactly the right spot. Carlos Puga, while trying to clear the goalbound header, accidentally slid the ball onto Alfonso Herrero before it rolled into the net to double the hosts’ advantage.

A minute later, Mbappe joined the scoresheet as Madrid showed their ruthless side to make it three before the half-hour mark. Trent Alexander-Arnold found the number nine in the box, and Mbappe responded with a superb volley that flew into the bottom-right corner.

Malaga had a few chances to pull one back, but they were unable to seriously test Thibaut Courtois as they looked for a way back into the contest.

Chasing his first La Liga hat-trick, Bellingham unleashed a fierce strike that crashed against the woodwork after more impressive work from the England international.

Malaga also had an opening of their own after playing through the Real Madrid press and shifting the ball to substitute Juan Cruz on the left. He drove infield before hitting a powerful effort that had Courtois concerned, but it cleared the crossbar.

The visitors believed they had won a penalty in an attempt to at least grab a consolation, but after consulting the VAR monitor, the referee overturned his decision.

Madrid added a fourth in stoppage time, with substitute Arda Guler scoring his first goal of the season. Vinicius Junior did brilliantly on the left before selflessly squaring for the Turkish midfielder, who tapped into an empty net.
