Manchester United supporters will be thrilled with their side’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

While Bruno Fernandes grabbed the headlines with a brilliant hat-trick, another United player also delivered an outstanding display, this time away from Old Trafford.

Jacob Devaney had already done enough to impress in the United academy to captain the under-21s, and he also got his first experience of senior football with St Mirren last season.

The Irish midfielder was given an opportunity during United’s pre-season, and he found the net in the team’s 5-0 win over Rosenborg in July.

Even so, the club felt his development would be better helped by a loan move this season, and he joined Hibernian until the end of the campaign.

Devaney proved last season that he is capable of handling Scottish football, and his new manager David Gray had no hesitation in naming him in the starting XI.

The United youngster responded in ideal fashion, producing a player-of-the-match display in Hibernian’s 2-1 win over Dundee.

Devaney was on the pitch for 81 minutes and produced two key passes from central midfield.

He also delivered an excellent passing performance, completing 94% of his passes and 83% of his long-ball attempts in a highly impressive outing.

Devaney further showed his work rate by carrying the ball 12 times to help relieve pressure on his team.

The Irishman also competed well in midfield, winning three ground duels and making one tackle in the match.

The Manchester United midfielder is now set for his home debut in an intriguing contest when his new club host fierce city rivals Heart of Midlothian on Thursday evening.
