New Juventus signing Jeff Ekhator suffers another injury setback

Juventus have been dealt an unfortunate setback, with summer arrival Jeff Ekhator appearing set for another spell on the sidelines after limping out of training in Turin on Sunday morning.

Ekhator completed a move to Juventus from Genoa earlier this summer in a deal worth €16m plus bonuses, but his pre-season build-up had already been disrupted by a hamstring strain suffered by the 19-year-old during a friendly against Basel in July.

The teenager had only just returned to full first-team training earlier this week and was included among the substitutes for Juventus’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Parma on Saturday evening. He did not get on the pitch, with Randal Kolo Muani playing the full 90 minutes at the Allianz Stadium.

Now, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ekhator has picked up a fresh injury problem during Juve training on Sunday morning.

The report states that he felt discomfort in his leg during an open session at Continassa on Sunday morning, went down to the ground and was then helped off the field by club doctors. He is expected to go to JMedical in the next few hours for further checks.

Juventus remain in the market for another centre-forward before the summer transfer window shuts on 1 September. As matters stand, Kolo Muani is the only dependable option available to Luciano Spalletti at No. 9 because of Ekhator’s injury situation and because neither Arkadiusz Milik nor Jonathan David are viewed as long-term solutions in the Juventus attack.

Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth, Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade are among the players linked with a move to Turin over the past few days.
