Let us know what is Team India's plan in this…
Will Team India shake hands with Pakistani players?
A high voltage match is going to be played between Team India and Pakistan in the Women's Asia Cup on 5th September. The question is whether the Indian team will follow BCCI's 'no-handshake' policy in this match? When this question was asked at a press conference just before the start of India's campaign, head coach Amol Majumdar sidestepped it and said that the team was focusing on one match at a time.
Majumdar said in the pre-match press conference, “Look, we try to play our best cricket on the field and don't pay attention to things off the field. We try to play our best cricket on that particular day and we will talk about it when we play that match. But right now, we are focusing on tomorrow's match. One match at a time.”
Majumdar refused to think too far ahead and said, “I don't want to think too far ahead. One match at a time. We will focus on tomorrow's match.”
No-handshake policy started after Pahalgam attack
Since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025, BCCI has been strictly following the 'no-handshake' policy against the Pakistan team. In that tournament, the Indian team captained by Suryakumar Yadav did not do any handshake with Salman Ali Aga's team in all three matches (including the title match).
Since then, this protocol is being consistently followed in senior, age-group and women's cricket tournaments. The Indian women's team also followed this policy during the Women's ODI World Cup match against Pakistan in Colombo in October 2025, while Indian players also followed this protocol in the Men's Rising Stars Asia Cup in November 2025.
The same approach was adopted at age-group and world events in the coming months. This policy continued during both the India-Pakistan matches in the Under-19 Asia Cup in December 2025 and there was no handshake in the matches of the Under-19 World Cup and Men's T20 World Cup in February 2026. Recently, during the Women's T20 World Cup match held in Birmingham in June 2026, Harmanpreet Kaur's team also adopted the same stance and did not shake hands with the Pakistan captain and players.
