According to reports, Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth, with the striker likely to cost around £30m.

The Red Devils have been busy in this summer’s transfer window, spending close to £150m to reshape their midfield through the signings of Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Manchester United have also brought in Karl Darlow as a new back-up goalkeeper along with several young players, but they are still looking to make further additions in the final days of the window.

Michael Carrick’s side are still light in a few areas, and it has been suggested they could yet recruit a left-back, a winger and/or a striker before the summer window closes.

United may move for a striker to provide cover for Benjamin Sesko, partly because Joshua Zirkzee appears likely to leave amid interest from Serie A side Fiorentina.

Some clubs now appear to be trying to capitalise on Manchester United’s search for a striker, with Atletico Madrid among those to have offered a player to the Red Devils.

A report claims Manchester United have been given the chance to sign Sorloth, who is rated at about £30m.

United are said to be considering whether to sign Sorloth and have not ruled out bringing him in as part of a last-minute transfer.

Sorloth is described as a tempting option for Manchester United, while the striker is said to be open to the right opportunity despite not pushing to leave Atletico Madrid.

Newcastle United and Juventus are also reportedly in the race for Sorloth, although the report says the Red Devils are unlikely to match Atletico Madrid’s asking price for him.

Manchester United have not yet made a final decision on Sorloth, but a source explained: “Alexander Sorloth has been offered to Manchester United, and, as of yet, they have not ruled out a move.

“Other clubs could be there too, so United need to decide fast. As things stand, I’m not sure they’d pay the £30m asking price, but they might try to negotiate a loan.”

Pundit Alan Shearer believes Manchester United “need another striker” to ease some of the burden on Sesko if they are to move to the “next level”.

“I do think for them to go to the next level they need another striker,” Shearer told Metro.

“I don’t think they’re good enough defensively, but I do think they’re also lacking in the centre-forward position.

“Clearly, Sesko wasn’t fit. They brought him on in the second half and he missed a couple of decent chances, but I do think that to go to the next level, they might need another centre-forward.

“Having said that, I guess you could say that with many clubs. Where do you get them from? That’s the big thing.”
