Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham could be preparing to widen his football club portfolio after reports connected him with a takeover move for FC Nantes. The historic French club are currently in sporting turmoil and sit at the bottom of Ligue 2 after being relegated from the top flight.

Beckham linked with Nantes takeover

Beckham may be ready to further grow his football empire after emerging as a possible buyer for the historic French club Nantes. Ouest-France has reported that the former Manchester United star is part of a consortium looking to buy the struggling side. Nantes have received at least three takeover offers, with two of those bids coming from investment funds based in Britain. Beckham's name has reportedly come up several times in high-level talks as current owner Waldemar Kita looks to sell.

Historic French giants in sporting turmoil

Nantes remain an appealing proposition despite their present struggles on the pitch. The eight-time Ligue 1 champions have a proud place in French football history, making them a project with the potential to bring back former glory.

However, the club are currently in serious disarray after dropping out of Ligue 1. Les Canaris are bottom of Ligue 2 after losing all three of their opening league matches of the season.

Fans have become increasingly frustrated during the ownership of Polish businessman Kita, who bought the club in 2007. Together with his son and club CEO Franck, Kita has overseen two relegations and 24 head coaches in 19 years.

Building an impressive global football portfolio

A move for Nantes would be the latest development in Beckham's growing ownership portfolio. The former England captain already owns significant stakes in two different clubs across North America and England.

Beckham started his ownership journey by using an option to buy an MLS expansion team in February 2014. That right had originally been secured as part of the contract he signed with LA Galaxy in 2007.

Inter Miami then made their official MLS debut in March 2020. Beckham also bought a 10 per cent stake in Salford City alongside his Class of '92 team-mates in January 2019, before fronting a new takeover consortium with Gary Neville in May 2025.

Next steps for proposed Nantes takeover

With Kita actively willing to sell, negotiations are expected to continue as rival bidders submit their final proposals. Beckham and his investment group will look to complete the details needed to secure control of the French club. If the deal is completed, the immediate focus will be on steadying results on the pitch in Ligue 2. Any prospective new owners would face the challenge of reversing the club's poor early-season form and rebuilding its long-term structure.
