Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda said India has made limited progress in Artificial Intelligence despite the global influence of Indian technologists. He called for using AI to address challenges in courts, education, healthcare and agriculture, rather than focusing only on commercial applications.

New York, Aug 28: India has made little progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) despite the prominent role of Indian technologists in shaping the emerging industry, senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has said, calling for the technology to be used to address the country’s courts, schools, healthcare and agriculture.

India’s AI progress concerns

“India is in a bad position in AI. I'm sorry to say that. I don't like to say that. Believe me. Indians are in a good position on AI. Two separate things,” Pitroda told IANS in an exclusive interview.

“There are a lot of Indian brains who shape AI. But as a nation, we have made very little progress. We have no policy on AI. We have no direction on AI. We have not used AI for our governance,” he said.
