Teenage forward Igor Tyjon is expected to push for first-team involvement this season under Mikel Arteta after Arsenal confirmed his arrival.

Arsenal had tried to strike an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the striker across the last few transfer windows, but had failed to do so on each previous attempt.

Tyjon completed a medical last week after the two clubs agreed a deal worth an initial £1million, with a further £2m possible in add-ons. The transfer was formally confirmed on Friday.

The 18-year-old, who has been given the No64 shirt, will initially link up with Arsenal's Under-21s squad, though he is also set to train with the first team at times.

Arsenal have made a strong effort to improve their academy ranks in recent transfer windows, and that drive has accelerated this summer.

Elijah Upson joined after leaving Tottenham Hotspur, while Axel Donczew is due to arrive from Cardiff City.

Arsenal are also expected to complete the double signing of James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye from Manchester United.

Tyjon has been on Arsenal's radar for more than a year, with the club especially keen to strengthen their striker options at academy level.

He was previously a youth prospect at Rochdale before moving to Blackburn Rovers' academy in the summer of 2023.

Tyjon scored on his debut for the Under-21s as a 15-year-old and had been named on the first-team bench by the end of that season.

The teenager signed a two-year scholarship contract at Blackburn Rovers in 2024 and later went on to make three first-team appearances.

In 33 matches for the Under-21s, Tyjon scored 13 goals. He played mainly as the central striker in those games, but has also been deployed on the wing and as a No10.

Both of Tyjon's parents are Polish and he represented Poland at Under-16 level, but he has since been capped by England and travelled to the Under-17 World Cup last season.

Blackburn Rovers were keen for Tyjon to sign a professional contract, but he made it clear that he had no intention of doing so.

Instead, the club extended his scholarship terms for a third year, with the previous deal due to expire this summer.

Arsenal remained determined to sign Tyjon and had to improve their offer after earlier bids worth around £1m were turned down.

An agreement has now been reached and his move has been made official.
