Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has debuted for the Indian team at the age of 33. Saransh is starting his career at the age when players' careers are on the decline. He has got a chance in place of Kuldeep Yadav in the second test against Sri Lanka. Kuldeep was not available for selection due to viral fever.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that Kuldeep can step in as a concussion substitute if needed. Even though BCCI says that Kuldeep is not playing because he has not fully recovered from viral fever, there were already speculations that he could be dropped for the summer. Kuldeep took only 1 wicket in the Galle Test.

Who is Saransh Jain?

Saransh is an off-spin bowler and left-handed batsman. His father Subodh Jain has been a first class cricketer. Saransh made his debut in Ranji Trophy in 2014 but he could play only 8 first class matches in the next 8 years. He took a new turn in his career in 2022. Saransh played an important role in making Madhya Pradesh the champion by performing well in the knockout matches of Ranji Trophy. He took 13 wickets and also scored a half-century.

Saransh, a fan of legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, had a stellar performance in the last Ranji season. He scored 518 runs at an average of 57.55 and took 30 wickets at an average of 20.43. Earlier, he had created a ruckus in the Duleep Trophy. While playing for Central Zone, this player had taken 16 wickets in two matches and played two half-century innings. He was awarded the Player of the Series award. Recently, before the only test match against Afghanistan, he was selected as the net bowler of Team India.

Saransh has played 54 First Class, 47 List-A and 20 T20 matches so far. In first class cricket, he has scored 2223 runs at an average of 31.75 and taken 188 wickets at an average of 27.30. He has scored 553 runs and taken 38 wickets in List-A. He has 37 runs and 18 wickets in his name in T20.
