A brilliant knock from Jan Frylinck and an all-round performance from Trumpelmann have set up Namibia for an 18-run victory against South Africa, played at Windhoek.
Jan Frylinck smashed a half-century while Trumpelmann added 12 runs and a three-fer against South Africa as they claimed victory in the opener match of the Namibia T20I Tri-Series 2026.
Batting first, Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck opened the innings while Duan Jansen opened the bowling attack.
The duo put a solid start of an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Bjorn Fortuin bagged the wicket of Louren Steenkamp (41).
Frylinck smashed fifty and went on to score 60 runs before being dismissed by Dewald Brevis.
Subrayen bagged his first wicket, dismissing Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton for 4 runs, while Gerhard Erasmus scored 19 runs before being dismissed by Bjorn Fortuin.
Subrayen bagged his second and third wickets, dismissing Zane Green and JJ Smith in the same over.
Duan Jansen bagged the wickets of Ruben Trumpelmann and Bernard Scholtz as the side scored 163 runs in their 20-over innings.
Subrayen bagged three wickets while Duan Jansen and Bjorn Fortuin bagged two wickets.
Chasing the 164-run target, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Jordan Hermann opened the innings while Gerhard Erasmus opened the bowling attack.
Jack Brassell bagged the wicket of Jordan Hermann (7) while Trumpelmann bagged the wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius (9). With Dewald Brevis and Tony de Zorzi at the crease, South Africa added 34 runs in the powerplay.
Max Heingo bagged the wicket of Tony de Zorzi for 9 runs, and the entire middle order got dismissed at intervals. Trumpelmann and JJ Smit bagged three wickets each as the middle order collapsed.
Only Dewald Brevis smashed fifty and went on to score 75 runs off 50 deliveries, which included 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Meanwhile, Duan Jansen remained unbeaten with 25 runs as the side scored 145 runs in their 20-over innings, and the side lost the game by 18 runs.
Trumpelmann and JJ Smit bagged three wickets each, while Gerhard Erasmus, Jack Brassell and Max Heingo bagged one wicket each.
JJ Smit was named player of the Match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Smit said, “No, it feels surreal. God, I believe we beat the Proteas again. Just a really proud moment for Cricket Namibia and Namibia as a whole.”
