Michael Carrick has given an update on his squad ahead of Manchester United’s first home match of the season.
The Red Devils are set to host newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 4.30pm.
Carrick will be eager to see United respond immediately after their poor opening-day defeat to Hull City last weekend by delivering a commanding and comfortable victory over the Tractor Boys.
But he will have to manage without Amad Diallo, while Carrick’s newest signing, Carlos Baleba, is also not available.
Amad missed the trip to Hull after picking up an ankle injury in training at Carrington before the season got under way.
There is hope that the 24-year-old, described as a ‘sensational’ talent by Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher, will return to full fitness before the international break in September.
Baleba, meanwhile, is also dealing with an ankle issue after damaging his ligaments during a pre-season meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion.
He completed his medical without any concerns being raised, and United still decided to pay £65 million for him, which suggests the problem is not expected to become a long-term issue.
Carrick told reporters this afternoon that the Cameroonian, whose transfer to the club was officially confirmed on Tuesday evening, should be sidelined for only ‘a couple of weeks’, meaning he could be in contention to make his debut around the time of the first Manchester derby on September 13.
Elsewhere, United are still awaiting the return of Matthijs de Ligt, who has been out since November 2025 with a back injury.
Manuel Ugarte is expected to miss most of the 2026/2027 season after undergoing knee surgery.
