NTA Appointments: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made several new appointments. Here are the details.

NTA Appointments: As part of efforts to strengthen and restructure the National Testing Agency, the Central Government has appointed two Directors and one Joint Director. The order was issued on August 27, and details regarding the appointments have now been made public. This move comes amidst government efforts to reform the agency following ongoing scrutiny and controversies surrounding competitive examinations conducted by the NTA.

New Appointments at the National Testing Agency

IPS officer Ravi Kumar Singh and IAS officer Prasanna Venkatesh V have been appointed as Directors. Additionally, Amit Samdariya, an IRS officer of the 2016 batch, has been appointed as Joint Director.

All three officers have been directed to assume their posts within three weeks of the order's issuance. It has also been stated that failure to join within the stipulated timeframe will trigger the process of excluding them from the Central Staffing Scheme.

Who are the newly appointed officers?

IPS officer Ravi Kumar Singh has been appointed as an NTA Director for a five-year term. IAS officer Prasanna Venkatesh V has also been appointed as a Director for a five-year term. Meanwhile, IRS officer Amit Samdariya (2016 batch) will serve as Joint Director for a four-year term. These appointments are viewed as part of the government's broader initiative to strengthen the testing agency's administrative framework.

Further Recruitment Under NTA Reforms

The restructuring process is not limited to the appointment of senior officials alone. The National Testing Agency has also announced recruitment for the positions of four General Managers and 16 Young Professionals. Applications for these posts have been invited via the UPSC portal. The objective behind this additional recruitment is to bolster the agency's institutional and administrative capabilities.

47 Officials Removed Earlier

These new appointments follow significant action previously taken against NTA officials. On July 25, the agency removed 47 officials in connection with the NEET paper leak case. According to reports, criminal cases will also be registered against the removed officials. This action was part of an institutional response to the controversies and allegations of irregularities surrounding the exam.

What is the NEET Paper Leak Case?

The controversy stems from the leaking of the question paper for the NEET-UG exam held on May 3, 2026. Following the controversy, the government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the exam and conducted a re-examination.

The issue sparked massive outrage among students, leading to protests demanding accountability and action against those responsible. The controversy had a severe impact on students across the country; reports of student suicides during this period also emerged.

Protests continued for weeks, including demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Protests were held for a month, and activist Sonam Wangchuk undertook a 26-day hunger strike. These protests yielded results, with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigning.

CBI Investigation Underway

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the paper leak. Investigations are being conducted across several states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Delhi, as investigators examine the extensive network and circumstances surrounding the leak. So far, 13 accused individuals have been arrested in the case. The CBI is likely to file a charge sheet soon as the investigation progresses.
