The second Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo is at an exciting turn. Today (27 August) is the fifth and last day of the competition. The tail batsmen of the Sri Lankan team playing follow on have made Team India sweat. Indian bowlers have bowled more than 40 overs today but they have got only two successes. Sonal Dinusha, who has become a headache for the Indian team in this series, has taken charge from one end.
Dinusha has taken the lead of Sri Lankan team playing follow on to close to 150. When the Indian team gave the sixth blow to Sri Lanka on the score of 218 in the last session of the fourth day, victory seemed very close to them, but due to the surprising comeback of Sri Lanka, now all three results seem possible. There is a high possibility of the match being a draw. If the Indian team bowls out Sri Lanka quickly, it may get enough overs to achieve the target. Sri Lanka's chances of winning are less but they cannot be considered out of the match. This is because it is very difficult to bat in the fourth innings in Sri Lanka.
India's test run chase record in Sri Lanka
The Indian team has so far won 2 Test matches while chasing the target on Sri Lankan soil. In 2001, he crossed the target of 264 runs with the help of captain Sourav Ganguly's unbeaten inning of 98 runs. The Indian team won this match by 7 wickets. After 9 years, Team India won by 5 wickets while chasing the target of 257 runs at P Sara Oval in Colombo.
India lost 4 wickets for 64 runs in the run chase. From here, VVS Laxman (103 not out) along with first Sachin Tendulkar (54) and then Suresh Raina led the team to victory. The Indian team has also lost 2 tests while chasing runs in Sri Lanka. First of all, in 1985, after setting a target of 348 runs, Team India had bundled out Team India for 198 runs. Whereas in the 2015 Galle Test, the Indian team was reduced to 112 while chasing the target of 176 runs.
