Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader K. Annamalai has raised questions on the approval given by the Censor Board to actor Yash's film Toxic. Expressing concern over the portrayal of women and violence in films, he said that the censor board should take more strict decisions on the content of films. Annamalai said that the rules should apply to films starring big actors in the same way as they apply to other films.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Annamalai said that portrayal of women in films in a negative light and excessive violence can have an impact on children and youth. He questioned that when the youth will get to see violence and objectionable portrayal of women in films, then how will the efforts to women's safety be strengthened in the society.

Concern expressed about impact on children and youth

Annamalai said that the censor board should seriously consider the scenes in films which present women in a particular and wrong way. According to him, children and students can be influenced by the things shown in films. Therefore, it is important to be careful in deciding what kind of content should be shown in a film. He also said that if a big actor is working in a film then the rules should not be relaxed. The censor board should take an unbiased decision based on the content of the film.

Toxic in discussion after release

Annamalai's comments come after the release of Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas. This pan-India Kannada action film starring Yash has earned Rs 108 crore nett across all languages ​​in India on the first day of its release, according to the makers. The film, said to be made with a budget of more than Rs 500 crore, has been released in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. According to the makers, the film in Hindi earned Rs 55.4 crore nett on the first day, which is higher than the opening of Rs 53.95 crore of Yash's 'KGF: Chapter 2'. The film also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi in important roles.
