Napoli are weighing up a loan move for Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Woltemade managed 12 goals and five assists in 54 appearances in all competitions last season.

He is facing tougher competition for minutes this season. William Osula and Yoane Wissa are currently ahead of him in the pecking order after both started Newcastle’s Premier League draw against Liverpool last weekend.

Napoli have now made enquiries over Woltemade’s availability. The Serie A club want to add to their attacking options after Romelu Lukaku completed a move to Fenerbahce.

They are also keen on Chelsea forward Marc Guiu and are believed to have a stronger chance of signing him than Woltemade.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have shown interest in Lille attacker Mathias Fernandez-Pardo. The Magpies have already submitted a formal offer for the Belgian forward.

Letting the German leave on loan would give him an opportunity to play regularly, while also opening up space for Newcastle to bring in another attacker.

The former Stuttgart player needs more minutes on the pitch to fulfil his potential and retain his place in Germany’s squad, especially after Jurgen Klopp’s appointment as manager.

A switch to Serie A could work in Woltemade’s favour, as the tempo of matches there is often slower than in the Premier League.
