Jamaica Kingsmen clinched their third victory of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 after standing their ground to beat St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 11 runs at Warner Park in a thrilling contest. It was also the second win for the Kingsmen against their cross-isle rivals this season.

Saim Ayub starred with a sensational all-round display as the second batter in as many days to score a century in the CPL. After Tim Seifert scored a century the previous evening, Ayub hit a brilliant 102 from 58 deliveries to propel Jamaica to 182 for 7 before making his mark with the ball. Hunain Shah and Jediah Blades each contributed two wickets in the successful defense of the total by the Kingsmen.

Saim Ayub Turns the Game Around

The Patriots made a scintillating start with the ball, as Naseem Shah hit two sixes on his debut to leave the Kingsmen reeling. Both openers were sent back to the pavilion during the Power Play, and Ayub walked in at No.3 with the innings in disarray.

The Pakistan all-rounder seemed intent on building a good foundation before upping his tempo. Wanindu Hasaranga looked to have put the brakes on a Jamaican recovery during the middle-overs, cleaning up two wickets and pouching a stunning one-handed catch to send Usman Khan back.

Ayub, though, refused to allow the Patriots to run away with the initiative. The 34-year-old was a masterful accumulator before blasting a brutal six-over assault during the final seven overs of the innings. The Jamaicans posted a staggering 91 runs in that period, with Ayub orchestrating their recovery.

Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul provided handy late contributions at the crease, adding 46 runs together to take the Kingsmen into the 180s.

Ayub then delivered the greatest knock of his Twenty20 career. The left-hander launched Obed McCoy over the fence for six to record his first century of the season. Yet, Ayub wasted his next ball attempting to repeat the dose, and fell to a thrilling catch at mid-on to turn the game on its head.

His 102-ball 102, though, ensured that the Patriots only had a target of 182 to chase down on a rain-interrupted day at Warner Park.

Patriots Follow a Familiar Script

St Kitts & Nevis followed a similar script to Jamaica during their chase. The Patriots posted 42 runs in the Power Play, but Blades and Paul had already removed three crucial wickets from the top-order.

A familiar theme emerged during the middle overs, as the Patriots found it difficult to accelerate.

Andre Fletcher struggled to find his stride like Ayub, but eventually found his timing to launch a swashbuckling counter-attack.

Fletcher, like Ayub, waited before unleashing his power-hitting, but eventually fell to the same bowler, Naseem Shah, in an explosive 36-ball 38.

The Patriots found themselves on a knife-edge after the 13 th over with 91 runs on the board, but they were still six runs behind their opponents.

Fletcher then began to accelerate, hitting more boundaries with increasing frequency, but Ayub was always lurking.

The Kingsmen skipper struck a sharp catch off his own bowling, and the removal of Fletcher sent the Patriots tumbling down the order once again.

Late Drama at Warner Park

With Fletcher gone, Dasun Shanaka and Jason Holder were left to keep the chase alive. The pair attacked Jediah Blades in the 18th over to add 24 runs, before the Warriors looked to steal a sensational victory.

Shanaka started the final over by hitting three consecutive sixes before Odean Smith sent him back in the final over of the match.

The final over provided a nail-biting finish as St Kitts & Nevis required 31 runs off the last six balls.

Smith then held his nerve to bundle the Patriots out in the final over, and the rain showers were the ideal relief for the Warriors at the conclusion.

The narrow 11-run defeat means that the home side lies at the bottom of the CPL 2026 table and has plenty to ponder during the remainder of their home fixtures.

Meanwhile, the victory for Jamaica Kingsmen ensures that Ayub leads his side up the table in fourth spot.
